The temple’s outer look resembles like Koorma, that is tortoise. This sloga goes. “Koormadheen Divyalokam Thadanu mani mayam mandapam Thathra sesham thasmin Darmathi peetam thathupari Kamatam shamara grahineem cha, Vishnum Devi Viboshadhi gana, Morakam Padhuka vainadayam Sanesam Dwara palam Kumudha Moka ganan Vishnu Bakthan Prapadhye” This is the scenario, which we will be able to get at Srivaikuntam, the abode of Sriman Narayana. The same scenario we have here also. Because in Paramapadam, Bhagwan Narayana is giving his seva as Hayagriva. That is what scriptures say. Here also it is Lakshmi Hayagriva temple. That scenario that is Vishwaksena and Garuda and Adisesha are here, God is reclining on ksheerabdhi, that is Sheerasamudra. All this we have got here itself and Vishnubakthas, any number of them are coming to the shrine. It looks just like Srivaikuntam. We will see this Garuda Sannadhi which is a small shrine of Garuda. Garuda is very important for any Perumal temple. He will be actually aspecting God and will be just standing before god. But Garuda has got special significance for Hayagriva Swamy temple. The legend goes that Vedanta Desika, a great scholar was given initiation in Garuda Mantram, by his own uncle Appular. Then he was contemplating on Garuda with this Mahamantram and Garuda appeared before Vedanta Desika and gave him a small idol of Yoga Hayagriva Swamy. Also gave him initiation in Hayagriva Mantra. Sri Vedanta Desika was sitting on hill Oushadagiri opposite to Devanatha Swamy temple. He was contemplating on Lakshmi Hayagriva by repeating the Mahamantra several thousands of times.
